Brasil - 3º Lugar em Projetos de Energia Limpa ( MDL ) - 3rd Place in Projects of Energy Cleans (MDL)

Brazil occupies the third position in projects of emission reduction of pollutant, with estimate of avoiding that 197 million tons of carbon dioxide or his/her equivalent one in other gases arrive to the atmosphere, provoking the global heating. That corresponds to 6% of the world total.

In first place it is China, with 1,435 billion t CO2e (44%), following by India, with 870 million t CO2e (27%). in agreement with the Protocol of Quioto, those projects, calls of mechanisms of clean development (MDLs) he/she gives right to credits of carbon, they can be of at the most 10 years for projects of fixed period or of seven years for projects of renewable period (at the most three periods of seven years, totaling 21 years). The credits are quoted today in about 14 euros for ton.

In the amount of projects of MDL registered in Executive Council of each country, Brazil arises for the second position, (with 100). Of the total of 656 registered projects, India answers for 221 and China, in third, for 84. In spite of having smaller amount of projects, Chinese are leaders in the capacity of emission reduction, because they have great generating units of pollution, as plants to coal.

In Brazil, the carbon dioxide (CO2) it is what understands the largest number of projects, with 65%. soon afterwards, they come the methane (CH4), with 34%, and the nitrous oxide (N2O), with 1%. most of the activities in MDL is in the energy section (56%), what justifies the predominance of CO2 in the scale of reductions of Brazilian emissions. The suinocultura appears in second place (15%) and the reception in sanitary embankments, in third (11%).

In relation to the number of projects capable to reduce the greenhouse effect, electric generation and suinocultura act, in Brazil, 77% (175 projects). The activities that more they will reduce the pollutant ones in the first period of obtaining of credits are the one of sanitary embankment, electric generation and reduction of N2O, totaling 163 million t CO2e, or more than 70% of the total of Brazilian reductions.

Brazilian States that more has projects of MDL are: São Paulo (25%), Minas Gerais (14%), Mato Grosso and Rio Grande do Sul (9%). All the data are coming of the Ministry of the Science and of the Technology and they were updated in the end of May.
